1. What is a Refugee?
A Refugee is a person who :
Is outside of the country of his/her nationality and has a well-founded fear of being persecuted on the basis of:
race
nationality
religion
political opinion
membership of a particular social group
and is unwilling to seek/unable to obtain protection of his/her own State.

If you apply for asylum at an Airport, Port, Garda Station, or the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner, you have a right to remain temporarily in Ireland until your application for asylum has been considered and a decision taken on your application.
