Helpline

In response to the coronavirus covid-19 crisis, we have established a nationwide telephone information service.   Our lines are open from Monday to Friday 10.00am to 12.30pm and from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.

Our helpline can give you information on such matters as how to apply for legal and mediation services, the financial eligibility criteria, the merits criteria, what mediation is, how it works.   We can also give you information on general legal matters and in some instances, we can arrange for you to speak to one of our solicitors or mediators.   We may also be able to assist you in identifying the appropriate service provider for your problem.

Domestic Violence

If you need legal aid to ask the court for protection from an abusive spouse/partner or other family member, you can apply for legal aid in order to do this. The Courts are continuing to deal with domestic violence as priority. To make an application for legal aid in this situation we have a number of ways you can contact us:

  • Call our lo-call number on 1890 615 200. This is an emergency number for Domestic Violence applications and we have staff on standby to assist you
  • Email your contact details to info@legalaidboard.ie and we will get back to you as soon as possible
  • Make an application for legal aid online

Children taken into care

If Tusla has informed you that it intends to apply to the court to take your children into care, or your children have been taken into care, you can apply for legal aid in connection with these proceedings.  The Courts are continuing to deal with these matters as priority. To make an application for legal aid in this situation we have a number of ways you can contact us:

  • Call our lo-call number on 1890 615 200. This is an emergency number for childcare applications and we have staff on standby to assist you
  • Email your contact details to info@legalaidboard.ie and we will get back to you as soon as possible
