Victims and Witnesses of Crime

If you or someone in your family is the victim of a crime or if you have witnessed a crime being committed, you will become involved in the criminal justice system.

The website of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) provides a Guide to the Criminal Justice System and how it operates.

There is a Crime Victims Helpline:

Legal Aid is not generally available to the victims of crime. However, the Board provides a free legal advice service to victims of human trafficking and complainants in rape and certain sexual assault cases. The Board also provides legal representation to complainants in rape and certain sexual assault trials  where an application is made to adduce evidence on, or cross-examine the complainant in relation to, their prior sexual history.
