Supporting Research

The Legal Aid Board engages with researchers in Higher Education Institutes and other recognised research bodies to provide opportunities for researchers to link with the Legal Aid Board, its staff and clients and to assist with the pursuit research with a shared interest and common purpose. In our Statement of Strategy 2021 – 2023 we have committed to continuing to develop our research function, liaising with service users, third level institutions and other relevant stakeholders, to further our collective knowledge and ensure our policy decisions are evidence based to the greatest extent possible. To that end we have proposed a number of key actions in this area:-

Our actions up to 2023:

  1. The number of third level research projects we are currently assisting will have increased
  2. Increase the volume of research that is undertaken internally and facilitate staff undertaking research when appropriate. A policy to facilitate the undertaking of research internally will be implemented
  3. Policy decisions will illustrate they are evidence based to the greatest extent possible

As part of the research strategy we are seeking to establish links with key external bodies for collaboration on research projects. We are keen to develop research projects that are informed by the key goals of Board with a focus on improving service delivery from the client’s perspective.   We are also open to exploring research suggestions that relate to our key areas of work where we may be able to provide assistance. If you would like to discuss a research proposal with us, please email your details to the Research Unit - research@legalaidboard.ie – for the attention of the Research Manager.
